- Gujarat Police's CID Crime has filed an FIR against the Bharatiya National Janata Dal and four office-bearers over an alleged bogus donation racket worth Rs 1,143.
- 85 crore.
The FIR was registered on September 25 by CID Crime, Gandhinagar Zone, following complaints filed by Income Tax officials. The case allegedly involves 56,238 donors and transactions covering the financial years 2019-20 to 2024-25. According to the complaint, taxpayers allegedly transferred money to the party through banking channels, including RTGS, and received donation receipts that enabled them to claim deductions. The complaint alleges that commissions ranging from 2 to 10 per cent were retained, while the remaining money was returned to the original donors through Angadiya channels and hawala networks. It also alleges that false accounting records and Form 24A contribution reports were submitted to the Election Commission, showing the transactions as genuine political donations. The Income Tax Department has estimated the direct tax loss at around ₹343 crore. Party president Surendrakumar Gajera is described in the FIR as the main accused and alleged lynchpin. General secretary Vipul Solanki, treasurer Ronaksinh Chavda and chartered accountant Adil Saiyed have also been named. The case follows similar FIRs registered by the Gujarat CID against three other parties over allegations involving the return of donations to taxpayers after commissions were deducted. The allegations against the BNJD have not been established by a court.
