  • Assam Police detained Cockroach Janta Party co-convener Ashutosh Ranka and several volunteers ahead of a planned meeting in Guwahati.
  • The CJP alleged that police restricted access to the venue and prevented its legal counsel from speaking with those detained.

The Cockroach Janta Party had planned its first regional volunteers' meeting in Guwahati, but the party alleged that Assam Police blocked access to the venue and intercepted people attempting to attend the meeting. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the group had been taken to an unknown location. NCP (SP) spokesperson Anish Gawande later said that Ranka and 41 others had been taken from a private residence where a meeting with volunteers was scheduled. In a video following the detention, Ranka accused Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of being concerned about the issues the party wanted to raise, including the condition of Assam's schools, Kaziranga and alleged man-made floods. According to Gawande, the meeting was also intended to discuss improving schools, protecting the rights of indigenous people in Kaziranga and the CJP's allegations regarding the redrawing of constituency boundaries. After his release, Ranka said the movement would intensify across the Northeast. ThePrint reported that it had contacted Assam Police for a response but had not received one at the time of publication. The claims made by the CJP and its supporters regarding the detentions and the political issues raised by the party remain allegations.
